At Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages, the setting does half the work. Lately our spaces have played host to all kinds of gatherings, in the Atrium, at the Tents and out in the Gardens. Each one has proved the same thing: the right place turns an occasion into something people talk about for years.

It’s not just an event. It’s a hub of beautiful memories.

A setting with a story

The Coffee Garden sits on what was once Karen Blixen’s own coffee farm estate in Karen, Nairobi. The Danish author of Out of Africa lived and worked on the estate from 1917 to 1931, and her story still shapes the feel of the place.

Today it’s a boutique hotel set in more than five acres of lush gardens, with century-old trees, flowering beds and a remarkable amount of birdlife. Even our reception has history. Guests check in at Swedo House, a former hunting lodge built between 1906 and 1908.

For an event, that history matters. Your guests don’t walk into a function room. They walk into a story.

Our spaces, endless possibilities

The Atrium. A light, elegant space that works beautifully for receptions, dinners and gatherings where you want warmth and atmosphere, whatever the weather.

Tent. A distinctive space with its own character, ideal for occasions that call for more guests and a setting your guests will remember.

The gardens. This is where the Coffee Garden truly shines. Under the shade of old trees, surrounded by flowers and birdsong, the gardens are made for garden weddings, birthday lunches, family celebrations and long afternoons that nobody wants to end.

Each space has its own personality, and each can be shaped around what your occasion needs.

Made for weddings

If you’re searching for a garden wedding venue in Nairobi, it’s hard to imagine a more romantic setting. Picture saying your vows beneath the trees, photographs among the flowers and a reception that drifts from golden hour into a candlelit evening.

And when the celebrations are over, there’s no long drive home. The Coffee Garden has 13 rooms set in plantation-style cottages, including a Honeymoon Suite, so the couple, and their closest family, can stay on site.

Celebrations, big and small

Not every memorable occasion is a wedding. Our spaces have welcomed:

Birthdays and anniversaries, from intimate lunches to garden parties
Family gatherings, where several generations can share one long table
Corporate gatherings, from team lunches to year-end celebrations away from the office

Easy to reach, easy to love

The Coffee Garden is in the leafy suburb of Karen, close to some of Nairobi’s best-loved sights: the Karen Blixen Museum is within walking distance, and the Giraffe Centre and Nairobi National Park are close by. That makes it easy for guests travelling from out of town to turn your event into a weekend.

It’s also the natural place to begin or end a safari. Many guests stay with us before heading to our sister camp, Karen Blixen Camp in the Mara North Conservancy, or after they return.
