The Coffee Garden Cottages

Set in what used to be Karen Blixen’s old coffee farm estate, in the heart of Karen in beautiful gardens and a peaceful suburb approximately 20 miles from downtown Nairobi, Kenya. It is located in a beautiful peaceful setting on Karen Road, about half a mile from the Karen Golf and Country Club, it is the site of the original farmhouse which was part of the Blixen property.

Centrally and conveniently located, it is a short walk from the Karen Blixen Museum, Kazuri Bead Factory and an easy 10 minutes’ drive from the popular Daphne Sheldrick Elephant & Rhino Orphanage as well as the Giraffe Centre. Just 10 minutes away, it is also well-placed for game drive in Nairobi National Park where one can spot the big game with the city skyline in the background. The Southern bypass makes Wilson Airport, which is used for all safari flights in Kenya, a quick 20 minutes’ drive. The bypass combined with the new Express Way on Mombasa Rd makes transfer to/from Jomo Kenyatta a breeze.

Butterflies and birds are seen around the gardens among the sweet-smelling frangipani and brightly colored bougainvillea. Diners have a choice of different areas for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The Blixen Pool Bar & Restaurant has an elegant and stylishly furnished indoor restaurant, cozy bar with a fire place and huge sky-lights, an adjacent pergola and garden right next to the beautiful heated pool. In-house guests can enjoy room service.

Hotel Rooms

Karen Blixen Rooms are designed to provide the highest levels of Comfort, Convenience and Eﬃciency. The hotel has 13 rooms, of these 3 are Classic rooms, 6 Junior Suites, 3 Deluxe Suites and 1 Honeymoon Suite. Guests staying in the Hotel have exclusive access to heated swimming pool.

Restaurant in a historical setting with professional service. Food was ok, although already slightly cold when served and the pizza base was not really the same you would expect for example in Italy... Unfortunately we were disturbed by very loud children allowed to run freely around the garden restaurant.

We spent the whole afternoon here, forgetting about time completely. The food was fresh and delicious, chosen from a menu with a wide variety. I was surprised at how low the bill was, considering the stunning surroundings and delicious food. I'll definitely be recommending the coffee garden to all my friends. Thank you for the great food and friendly service.

The plan was to dine in, we hadn't made a reservation so decided to have a cocktail (best long Island Ave had in a long time) at the bar before we got seated (this never happened). We really wanted to try out their ribs and burgers, but we never got to. Left disappointed, but would definately try again(with reservations this time). Great atmosphere, nice outdoor space.

The service at this restaurant was wonderful! I loved how upscale the environment felt. It was also warm and welcoming. I loved the variety of bread as an appetizer. I decided to try a burger here. It had so much potential but fell short. I was asked how I would like my burger to which I replied “well done”. When I received my burger it was pink in the middle. The server saw this for himself and was super understanding and took my burger back to be cooked longer. After it had been brought back I was super excited to eat being as though everyone in my party had already finished their food. When I took my first bite I saw that the burger was still undercooked. Instead of sending it back again I decided to take it home and cook it until well done for myself. I would dine here again however I won’t be trying another burger.
