A Danish Internship Experience at Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages
At Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages, we’re thrilled to see a growing partnership with Zealand Business College, which brings Danish students to Kenya for immersive internships. September marked the arrival of Sandra, who spent time with us as a pastry chef intern, and this month, we welcomed Anne Kathrine Dueholm and Julie Nikoline Linhus for their five-week internship experience.
This exchange program provides the students with a unique opportunity to explore Kenya’s vibrant hotel industry, gaining firsthand experience in different facets of hospitality. Anne spent her time working in both the hot and cold kitchens, learning the ins and outs of kitchen operations, while Julie honed her skills as part of our dedicated waitstaff team. Their internships weren’t just about work; they also enjoyed a memorable trip to Karen Blixen Camp, marking their first visit to the Maasai Mara.
What struck both Anne and Julie the most during their time here was the warmth and friendliness of the Kenyan people. They were truly touched by the kindness and hospitality that is so characteristic of our country. Perhaps this is why tourists are always eager to return—it’s the spirit of Kenya that makes every experience unforgettable!
We look forward to continuing this exciting partnership and welcoming more students in the future, helping them to gain valuable skills while also introducing them to the wonders of Kenya’s rich culture and the breathtaking beauty of the Maasai Mara.
