Strengthening Danish-Kenyan Ties
At Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages, we had the honor of hosting Her Excellency Christina Egelund, Denmark’s Minister for Higher Education and Science. Her visit celebrated a decade-spanning relationship between Kenya and Denmark built on education, sustainability, and shared values.
CEO Ronald Mutie highlighted our transformative partnership with DANIDA, whose support launched the Hospitality Cooking School at our camp. This initiative has so far trained 111 local Maasai youth as professional chefs, equipping them for international culinary careers.
Now, this program is expanding to include automotive mechanics training, thanks to collaboration with ZBC – Zealand Business College in Copenhagen and potential involvement from Toyota Denmark.

Conservation Through Global Collaboration
Sustainability remains at the heart of everything we do. Our Karen Blixen Camp Trust works alongside the Danish Earth Keeper Foundation to conserve critical land in the Mara North Conservancy. These efforts reduce human-wildlife conflict and protect the ecosystem for generations to come.
Danish-Kenyan Collaboration in Action
Minister Egelund’s itinerary also included a visit to KMTC Karen Campus, a gift from the Danish government, and the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding focused on education, research, and healthcare partnerships.
At Karen Blixen Coffee Garden, we are proud to be more than just a hospitality provider. We are storytellers of legacy, guardians of community, and active players in shaping the future of sustainable tourism in Kenya.
